Drink The Kool-aid!

At Christian Perry’s SF Beta event last, by golly, there was plenty of it to go around!

There must have been 150 attendees enjoying themselves last night, many of whom dished out $20 to rub elbows with the ‘Net-set. The event, replete with sponsors, was reminscent of a Yahoo party circa 1998. Lot’s of hipsters and, gulp, branded shwag! Even his majesty, Robert Scoble was there to MC! Click on over to Bub.blicio.us for a recap of the event they’ll post soon, if not already.

Hats off to Christain, who runs ZapTix (a ticket selling service that Meetup.com should buy) for pulling off an amazing feat of becoming the social glue in our social media town within the timespan of only a few months.

After he attended my SF New Tech Meetup, thrilled to find his tribe, Christian called me to ask what it took to run a Meetup. I relayed to him that starting a Meetup was easier than one would think.

“Build it and they will come” was my advice. And build it he did — and boy did they come! In just 5 short months, Christain’s SF Beta community has grown into perhaps the most vibrant community of netheads, founders, geeks and the like, in the entire city. Not bad for the new kid in town. Christain moved here from the midwest less than a year ago — and now look at him, king of the scene. Bravo!

While we were all enjoying our “first life” conversations, spirits & victuals at SF Beta, I couldn’t help but notice all the Kool-Aid packs strewn about the room.

Oh My. Second Life Koolaid! Yikes!

Come Drink The Second Life Kool-Aid!
